And then there is the shake; as in the Slim Fast Diet.
If that sounds familiar because it's the exact same thing Herbalife is recommending; or is the other way around? Regrettably diets are dime a dozen today and sometimes is hard to tell who had the idea first.
So let's discuss instead the basic characteristics of this diet and the usual pros and cons. This is one of the diets that people seem either to love or hate, as some claim that it works wonders, while others speak of it as a rip-off.
The basic idea is to replace two daily meals with Slim Fast shakes, accompanied by two pieces of fruit and a nutrition bar, and to have a sensible dinner at the end of the day.
A sensible dinner means that you are allowed to eat whatever you want, as long as you hold the portions average. At least this is the theory. In practice you will soon find out that dinner is the only time you can get some actual healthy food, aside from the vitamins and minerals-laden shakes, which means that your food choices are limited to those that can keep you on your feet and thinking clearly.
In addition to the shakes, it's suggested to drink between 6-8 glasses of water per day to help along with the process of losing weight. It's also urged to follow a workout program; which could be difficult considering the 1200 calories a day intake. But if you have the stamina the exercise routine could help you to lose the weight quicker; spending less time on the diet. Since you have to buy all those shakes and bars, some people feel the diet is too expensive. On the other hand remember you are trading 2 meals for 2 shakes; so the cost is probably going to be pretty even.
After everything is said and done it looks the bigger trouble with this diet is that every one is on their own. There is no support or structure in place to help or encourage you along. Just a box of shakes and hopefully your common sense. You could say that might be a healthy thing since it builds self reliance and helps you to build eating habits that might stay in place long after you stopped this diet. Most people however tend to do better with a support system in place.
