P.O.R.N. Diets

I am coining this term as I feel some of the diets out there are so radical they need to be discussed in one place.

We here from our favorite celebrities daily and some of us live for this. We follow them on Twitter, talk about them on Bebo and MySpace or e mail each other about them especially when a new diet is talked about.

There have been some over the top radical diets in the past like the 'Air diet', not a very popular one for obvious reasons unlike the 'Chocolate' diet. Then there is the more main stream 'Atkins' diet or 'The Dash Diet' or even 'The South Beach Diet'. All have there plus and minus points and their advocates and nay sayers as well.

The trick when it comes to diets if there is a trick in selecting one would be to thoroughly research the topic. The mere fact that there literally are thousands of diets commercially available shown on television, billboards or even your local Chemist shop.

Here will be many, many articles pertaining to the topic of P.O.R.N. Diets circulating our media and your opinion on them is most welcome. Maybe you have been on one and would like to praise it or maybe warn others away from it. Whatever you may like to share, diet related, please do.

The Good And Bad Sides Of Atkins Diet

By Shay Liffkinn

Nowadays there are many types of low-carb diets on the market. They are all based on the same principle of high protein and low carbohydrate eating. These principles were developed by Dr. Atkins and the most popular type of low-carb diet actually is Atkins diet.

Why are low-carb diets so popular? It is because they have many benefits which in part are scientifically proven. Studies have shown that there is a significant weight loss when living on low-carb eating. This is interesting because calories are not reduced. Other studies have shown that triglycerides and good cholesterol (HDL) are increased and blood glucose is reduced. Insulin sensitivity rises while blood pressure and the blood insulin level lower. In addition to that Atkins dieters lose less muscle mass than people living on low-fat diet.

People eating according to the principles of low-carb diet report many more benefits. Their wellbeing and overall constitution improve. The mood is better and depressive illnesses are rare.

This is true for all types of low-carb diets. However, some benefits are only known of people living according to Atkins principles. After years of sacrifice it is great to eat all the meals again which are forbidden in a low-fat diet. For Atkins dieters it is normal to enjoy a steak, butter and cream. They are even encouraged to eat substantial meals including fats and oils.

Compared with other low-carb diets Atkins is very simple to use. It is based on a list with accepted meals which can be eaten as much as you want. The only thing you need to remember are some basic carbohydrate counts.

Anyone living on Atkins diet needs to find his or her personal carbohydrate level. Dr. Atkins states that people react in different ways and that everybody has its own level of carbohydrate tolerance. That is to say that some people gain weight when eating 90 grams of carbohydrate daily while others can eat 120 grams. In the phase of weight loss and in the pre-maintenance phase the personal carbohydrate count is detected. The personal level will help not to gain weight a life long.

Although Atkins diet is very popular there are also many people who object to this form of living. The huge amount of information available online and in books makes it available to everyone, so that everyone can form a view on it. There are also many misconceptions about, so be prepared for defending yourself and your new diet!

Once you have decided to live on Atkins diet you need to show some endurance during the first weeks. It can be very tiring to count carbohydrates in everything you eat. Induction, an aspect of the diet which is hotly debated, can also be hard to get through. After years of eating carbs and sugar the dietary change may have some unpleasant side effects. You need endurance if you do not want to give up.

Some people experience a so called carb crash on the 3rd or 5th day of the diet. The carb crash is a reaction on ketosis and it occurs because the body is suddenly running on fat and not on carbohydrate. Although the effects are not so bad many people quit the diet because of this experience.

Despite these drawbacks the Atkins eating plan is very popular and has many benefits. And the best is that it really works. Many people are happy with this form of diet and their life has improved a lot. So do not hesitate and start your new diet today.
