P.O.R.N. Diets

I am coining this term as I feel some of the diets out there are so radical they need to be discussed in one place.

We here from our favorite celebrities daily and some of us live for this. We follow them on Twitter, talk about them on Bebo and MySpace or e mail each other about them especially when a new diet is talked about.

There have been some over the top radical diets in the past like the 'Air diet', not a very popular one for obvious reasons unlike the 'Chocolate' diet. Then there is the more main stream 'Atkins' diet or 'The Dash Diet' or even 'The South Beach Diet'. All have there plus and minus points and their advocates and nay sayers as well.

The trick when it comes to diets if there is a trick in selecting one would be to thoroughly research the topic. The mere fact that there literally are thousands of diets commercially available shown on television, billboards or even your local Chemist shop.

Here will be many, many articles pertaining to the topic of P.O.R.N. Diets circulating our media and your opinion on them is most welcome. Maybe you have been on one and would like to praise it or maybe warn others away from it. Whatever you may like to share, diet related, please do.

Doc Says I'm Diabetic - Now I Can't Enjoy Eating?

By Lauran Stevenin

Fat is burned by exercise. Stored fat in the body causes you to feel more fatigued and makes you less apt to work to rid yourself of excess weight. Even if you eat moderately, but feel you don't have the energy to a little bit of exercise, you are likely to continue to keep those extra pounds. Don't think that you have to exercise at the gym for 3 hours a day, four or five times a week to lose some of that weight. It's gradual exercise that is the best for you to get started with. Break that cycle of fatigue and weight by starting a little bit at a time.

Eating well balanced meals are the key to maintaining your health as a diabetic. Combine this with a daily exercise regime to use more calories than you take in. "Give me meat and potatoes!" used to be my motto. Then the doctor told me my triglycerides were up and if I didn't start eating better I'd end up with diabetes. Talk about a scare! That caused me to start eating on a smaller plate, taking smaller portions and eating more vegetables. Eating fewer calories than you use (i.e. eat 1200 calories - use 1400 calories) is the key to gradual weight loss and a healthier body.

There are two schools of thought about vegetables. One supports the benefit of more enzymes in raw vegetables. The other raves about the extra flavor you can add even though you lose some of the beneficial enzymes in the cooking process. Raw fruits and vegetables provide more enzymes and fewer calories. Those vegetables that provide extra fiber in your diet also help you feel full without eating a lot of extra calories.

Don't feel like a "health nut" if you consider squeezing your own juice. That's a stereotype given to people who generally put health above all else in life. Well, let's face it. If you've been diagnosed with diabetes, you SHOULD be taking better care of your health and squeezing your own juice is one way to do that. Using a blender and avoiding adding extra sugar will give you juices that have a lot of good enzymes, lower sugar content and are better for you. You might even try guava or red grapes. They make a tasty juice as well as controlling your blood sugar level.

Our society has become obese, as the doctors like to say it. Fast food restaurants fry foods and pour the sugar drinks, shakes and little sweet pies. That makes it difficult to find a way for a diabetic to eat out. The result is taking most of your meals at home.

Eat ifoods rich in fiber. Vegetables high in fiber content help clean the blood of fats and blood glucose, thus enabling you to maintain a lower blood sugar level and keep the body clean. You see many diabetics eat salads regularly to keep these issues under control. Care needs to be taken when choosing the salad dressing, however. Many dressings include mayonnaise and sugar to improve flavor and those are on the don't use list. The real key there is moderation. Most people cant do totally without those things, so now we ask that you limit the use. That's right. Use in moderation. Remember, they contain calories (and lots of them).

Your pancreas produces enzymes that aid in digestion as well as insulin to regulate sugar in the blood. Over time it loses it's ability to produce both. This gradual weight loss and the resulting increased health helps to reduce the strain on the pancreas. In other words, this compounds the benefit of the balanced diet.

Four of the fat-fighting compounds you can always count on are calcium, fiber, omega-3s and vitamin D. Calcium is found in dairy products. When considering dairy keep in mind it's best to use fat-free or soy milk products. Whole grains, fruits and vegetables are high in fiber. Walnuts, flax seed and fish contain a lot of omega-3s while vitamin D is found not only in dairy products, but also in eggs and fish like tuna, salmon and sardines.
