P.O.R.N. Diets

I am coining this term as I feel some of the diets out there are so radical they need to be discussed in one place.

We here from our favorite celebrities daily and some of us live for this. We follow them on Twitter, talk about them on Bebo and MySpace or e mail each other about them especially when a new diet is talked about.

There have been some over the top radical diets in the past like the 'Air diet', not a very popular one for obvious reasons unlike the 'Chocolate' diet. Then there is the more main stream 'Atkins' diet or 'The Dash Diet' or even 'The South Beach Diet'. All have there plus and minus points and their advocates and nay sayers as well.

The trick when it comes to diets if there is a trick in selecting one would be to thoroughly research the topic. The mere fact that there literally are thousands of diets commercially available shown on television, billboards or even your local Chemist shop.

Here will be many, many articles pertaining to the topic of P.O.R.N. Diets circulating our media and your opinion on them is most welcome. Maybe you have been on one and would like to praise it or maybe warn others away from it. Whatever you may like to share, diet related, please do.

What Are The Heart Benefits Of Fish Oil Supplements?

In the past I've written quite a bit about the health benefits of fish oil supplements. Today I want to look more specifically at the heart health benefits of fish oil supplementation, or fish oil capsules.

There is a new study, the results of which have been published in the Jan/Feb issue of Sports Health, A Multidisciplinary Approach.

The study was about the heart benefits of taking fish oil supplements, or essential fatty acid supplements. The main component of these is fish oil, and the 2 major fats are DHA and EPA.

The study was done on 36 pro football players from 23 to 41, who took either fish oil omega3 supplements or a placebo. They took 4 fatty acid supplements/capsules each day, and that provided them with 2560 mg of omega-3 fatty acids (650 mg EPA and 450 mg DHA in each capsule.)

The results of the study were very good, backing up other studies demonstrating the heart health benefits of Omega 3 supplementation, or Omega3 supplementation that increases the levels of essential fatty acids in the diet.

The results were good. HDL levels (good cholesterol) went up while LDL (bad cholesterol) went down.

And triglycerides went down too, an excellent result.

This is not the only fish oil supplements study to find a link between Omega3 and heart health. There are now numerous studies confirming a range of heart related health benefits of taking fish oil or Omega 3 supplements.

In fact the American Heart Association now recommends the intake of EPA and DHA (the two major beneficial Omega 3 fats) daily, at a dose of 1 gram a day, more for those with elevated triglycerides.

So now you know. There are significant benefits to your heart health from taking Omega 3 fish oil capsules, so you ought to be making sure you're doing so. How? By taking the very best Omega 3 fish oil capsules.

But not all fish oil supplements are the same. Some have different levels of DHA in them and there are also issues with contamination with some heavy metals, PCBs and mercury. Not high levels, but enough to take notice of. The best fish oil supplements have no detectable levels of contaminants, and also a high level of DHA, so are better value, and clean.

So if you're at risk of heart problems, and aren't we all, make sure you make fish oil supplements a part of your daily diet.
