P.O.R.N. Diets

I am coining this term as I feel some of the diets out there are so radical they need to be discussed in one place.

We here from our favorite celebrities daily and some of us live for this. We follow them on Twitter, talk about them on Bebo and MySpace or e mail each other about them especially when a new diet is talked about.

There have been some over the top radical diets in the past like the 'Air diet', not a very popular one for obvious reasons unlike the 'Chocolate' diet. Then there is the more main stream 'Atkins' diet or 'The Dash Diet' or even 'The South Beach Diet'. All have there plus and minus points and their advocates and nay sayers as well.

The trick when it comes to diets if there is a trick in selecting one would be to thoroughly research the topic. The mere fact that there literally are thousands of diets commercially available shown on television, billboards or even your local Chemist shop.

Here will be many, many articles pertaining to the topic of P.O.R.N. Diets circulating our media and your opinion on them is most welcome. Maybe you have been on one and would like to praise it or maybe warn others away from it. Whatever you may like to share, diet related, please do.

Are Restaurant Meals Really Healthy?

By Dan Sewinski

Good eating is all about portion control. So many restaurants serve large portions now that Americans think they have to have large portions. Large portions are good only if the food is low in calories and nutritious. When you cook in your own home, be very aware of how you cook and the portions. Cook light with healthy foods.

The oil used in cooking is as important as the food when it comes to cooking light. Oil can greatly increase any food's calorie and fat totals. Even if you use only healthy vegetables and other low-calorie foods, adding a lot of animal fat in your cooking oil will make the dish unhealthy when you've finished cooking it.

These guidelines will help you to cook light and healthy when you prepared home-cooked meals. First, you need to use vegetable oil when cooking, so that your meals don't add a lot of fat and calories. Corn oil and palm oil are the most popular vegetable-based cooking oils. They contain lots of the so-called 'good' cholesterol that can help to protect your heart, and they cancel the effects of the 'bad' cholesterol contained in animal fats.

No added chemicals: As much as you can, do not put any other chemicals or flavoring into your food that are not natural. It adds to the unhealthiness of the dish that you are serving. Powder flavoring may help enhance the taste in the dish that you are cooking but it can also cause liver and kidney problems because of its high salt content. Another thing to avoid is to use deep fried mixes and batter to your food as this only add to the caloric content of the food but none to the nutritional content.

Cook more seafood and vegetables at home, and don't cook meat at every meal. You should eat meat with no more than two meals per day, so that you can avoid the extra fat and cholesterol in meat without giving up the protein you need. When you do eat meat, choose white meats like turkey and chicken, because they have less cholesterol than beef or pork. Pork is probably the best meat for low-fat diets because the fat can be separated from the meat easily. Beef fat, on the other hand, is usually spread relatively evenly throughout the meat.

Cooking for less: One way to eat light is to psych yourself to also cook light, not only in caloric and fat content but also in the number of servings. This is especially true if you are cooking for dinner. Cook less rice and more of the dishes. Do this gradually though. Drastic change in food intake can cause health problems. This is also not recommended if there are young children. With young children, it is important that you provide them with all the food that they need for growing up. This does not mean though that they should overeat but neither should you put them on a diet unless said so by a doctor.
