P.O.R.N. Diets

I am coining this term as I feel some of the diets out there are so radical they need to be discussed in one place.

We here from our favorite celebrities daily and some of us live for this. We follow them on Twitter, talk about them on Bebo and MySpace or e mail each other about them especially when a new diet is talked about.

There have been some over the top radical diets in the past like the 'Air diet', not a very popular one for obvious reasons unlike the 'Chocolate' diet. Then there is the more main stream 'Atkins' diet or 'The Dash Diet' or even 'The South Beach Diet'. All have there plus and minus points and their advocates and nay sayers as well.

The trick when it comes to diets if there is a trick in selecting one would be to thoroughly research the topic. The mere fact that there literally are thousands of diets commercially available shown on television, billboards or even your local Chemist shop.

Here will be many, many articles pertaining to the topic of P.O.R.N. Diets circulating our media and your opinion on them is most welcome. Maybe you have been on one and would like to praise it or maybe warn others away from it. Whatever you may like to share, diet related, please do.

Ten Diet Tips to Help Lower Blood Pressure

By Esther Dacanay

Today's modern treatments of high blood pressure focus mainly on treating the symptoms, but there are other alternative methods such as diet and nutrition which focus on treating the underlying cause of this disease. If caught in its early stages, there are some forms of high blood pressure that can be completely reversed without the use of pharmaceuticals if a strict diet is adhered to on a daily basis. Anyone, whether healthy or ailing will benefit significantly from the dietary and nutritional guidelines listed below.

1) Low-Fat; High-Fiber - Eat plenty of oat bran, pectin fruits (such as bananas, apples and melons), vegetables (such as broccoli, cabbage, green leafy vegetables, peas, prunes, beets, carrots and spinach).

2) No on Salt - A high intake of sodium can promote the retention of fluids and increase blood pressure. A large reduction of salt in your diet can help alleviate this problem. Furthermore, you should double-check food labels and watch for the symbol na or the word sodium in products. Monosodium glutamate is found in some canned vegetables, soups, ibuprofen medications, diet sodas, meat tenderizers, most sugar substitutes, soy sauce and softened water. Definitely watch for this!

3) No Sweets - White sugar has been shown to not only promote the body's retention of sodium, but also causes an increase in adrenaline whereby creating blood vessel constriction.

4) Quit Smoking - It is no secret that smoking is not only dangerous, but deadly as well. It is not widely known that smoking increases a body's blood pressure, making it an extreme risk factor for hypertension. In addition, it is also thought that smoked and aged meats and cheeses are also very bad for your health. Other foods that must be avoided include animal fats, gravies, broths, processed foods and yes, even CHOCOLATE.

5) Stalk Up on Celery - Research has it that celery stalks have beneficial effects on lowering high blood pressure if eaten (or juiced) on a regular basis. Its said that celery oil and celery seeds have been used for generations by folk healers and Chinese physicians in the treatment of high blood pressure.

6) Good Oils vs. Bad Oil - Everyone knows that hydrogenated fat and margarine is not good for the body. However, oils such as olive, flaxseed and fish all contain highly beneficial properties in aiding an ailing body.

7) Red Meat Bad - although we love to partake in a delectable burger or a juicy steak, it is very important that these delicious treats be limited to a once a month regimen. Lean white meats and coldwater fish are excellent in fighting the battle of high blood pressure.

8) Garlic - Research has shown that garlic contains healing properties that not only aid in lowering blood pressure, they also decrease cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood. Unfortunately, many people do not ingest enough garlic on a regular basis to benefit from it, so an odorless capsule is highly recommended. Furthermore, it is important to note that onions also contain many of the same healing properties as garlic.

9) Go Green - The word is that vegetarians have considerably lower blood pressure readings than their meat-eating counterparts. Consider becoming a vegetarian! Most people with hypertension can lower their blood pressure by eating less meat and more vegetables. In fact, the most effective way to lower blood pressure safely, rapidly, and permanently, is an entirely vegetarian diet.

10) The Dash Diet - This diet plan was formulated specifically for those with high blood pressure. The medical community has recognized that hypertension is a serious disease that can damage other life giving organs in the body. This why the Dash Diet is one of the first treatments recommended in treating high blood pressure. This phenomenal diet is recognized and endorsed by organizations such as The American Heart Association, The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the as well as the U.S. Guidelines for the Treatment of High Blood Pressure.
